Hunting Humanity
Long ago in the old Stone Age, a young hunter left his clan’s camp in the mountains to hunt alone. While he was gone, a major earthquake hit the area. The frightened hunter headed back to ask his elders what had happened and what it meant, but when he returned his clan was gone. This was a disaster, and to make it worse his people believed that without a clan you could not be human.
Then began a quest by this one lone hunter to find humanity—and the humanity he was hunting was his own.

In the Crucible of History
In 1912 it seemed that Jacob Janzen was on top of the world. His family owned and operated a brewery and he was about to become betrothed to a woman he loved. They lived in the Mennonite colony Chortitza in southwestern Russia. That area is close to the modern city of Zaporizhzhia in the country of Ukraine.
Unfortunately, the First World War would soon begin, to be swiftly followed by the Russian Revolution and civil war. Those were not the only challenges that they would face. This is the story of how they met and dealt with hardships beyond our experience.
